Golfing For Gold

Girls golf ends the season getting fourth at State

The girls golf team showed off their skills at their state tournament, where they gave it their all to get in the top five. The team tasted success during the 2016 NSAA Girls Golf State Championship, in which they got 4th. The tournament was held in Norfolk.
“I was very proud of the team,” senior Shivani Gajre said. “I think we played great based on the weather conditions, which was very cold.”
The team prepared for the tournament in many ways, including playing a practice round at the golf course on the day before the tournament.
“We basically saw how each hole was, and the pin placements on the green for the next day,” Gajre said.
This practice round helped the team plan how to play their best game, because they were able to visualize the course.
Many students stood out during the season and the tournament itself was a highlight due to their stellar accomplishments.
“I think the MVP was Sydney Irlbeck, because she shot her best round at state,” Murray said.
Of course, the team could not have gotten there without support of hardworking coaches.
“I think the MVPs were the coaches, because during tournaments, they are always there to calm your nerves. Also, they do a great job with making practice a fun time,” Gajre said.
In all, the golf team had a great season, where their hard work showed paid off. The goal for the whole team is to improve, but as of now, they are happy with their results. The whole team is supportive of each other, and everyone is grateful for the opportunity to play golf.
“Joining the girls golf team was one of the best decisions I made during high school, because we are not only a team, but a big family, that can bond while playing the game we love,” Gajre said.
