Friends and fall meet for a very special dance

The 5th annual Special Friends Fall Dance was a smashing success

January 7, 2016

The room is dark and bright lights bounce off of the walls to the beat of pump-up party music. In the large reception room you are immediately greeted by boisterous laughs, and flamboyant dance moves that immediately pull you to the floor.

This scene is one in which fun, friends and a whole lot of dancing meet for one great night. The special friends fall dance is an annual event that excites all of its attendees for hours full of fantastic music, great dancing, and delicious refreshments.
Beginning at 7:30 P.M. students from all around the Millard School district in the special education department meet for the night of dancing and excitement that lasts for hours.

The Special Friends Fall dance has been going on for approximately five years. Students from the High school Alternate Curriculum Program (ACP), and the Young Adult program are all invited.

Attendees have a great opportunity to meet up with their friends from different schools and catch up to the beat of the music. It is clear when walking into the dance that happiness fills every corner of the room along with every inch of the dance floor.
The students who attend this dance enjoy meeting up with volunteers from all around the Millard district who also get to partake in all of the festivities of the evening.

I think the best part is going there and going all out with them. Everyone is so much fun and it makes me feel good to see them so comfortable in their surroundings

— Paige Telley

The students present at the special friends fall dance and prom have the opportunity to also attend homecoming and prom held at the high schools. The environments at the special friend dances can be more comfortable for certain students, and create an exciting atmosphere that is lively and enjoyable for anyone fortunate enough to be in it.

“The special friends fall dance and prom is a smaller group where students know others from Millard West and Millard South and it’s much more intimate,” Special education teacher Tricia Rhode said.

Throughout the dance it is evident that everyone on the floor is enjoying themselves. Partaking in dances is one of the most memorable things about high school. For many students the special friends fall dance is a great way to have fun, make memories, and dance all through the night.
