The Decision Stands

Newspaper racks to provide easy access to school

In addition to the new renovations such as the new hallway and constructed lecture halls, MN will be obtaining an effective tool that will improve the dynamics of the newspaper and may help publicity.
MN will be receiving 15 brand-new, carefully-placed newspaper stands to display “The Hoofbeat” throughout the hallways.
Those 15 locations will be including the up-to-date hallway, science, foreign language, and math wing, Mustang Center, and the cafeteria. As a result of their locations, it will be easy for students to simply pick one up without having to walk across the school.
Senior Tyler Collins, who has been a writer for “The Hoofbeat” for over a year now, saw the need for change.
“While thinking of ways to make our newspaper more professional, I thought of the idea to get the stands to make the distribution easier and more accessible. I was trying to think of ways students could engage more with the newspaper and be respected as a publication of our school,” Collins said.
Newspaper and Yearbook adviser Sarah Crotzer, believes that the stands will benefit students and staff alike. Both will be informed of stories occurring in and out of our school, around the community, and around the nation. It could also be educational for the introduction classes like Introduction to Journalism and Photojournalism that Crotzer teaches.
“The newspapers will be more visible. In addition, I hope students will be more interested in learning about the newspaper. It could be used as a recruiting tool, ” Crotzer said.
For aspiring reporters and editors, students can learn that being on newspaper or yearbook provides them with life skills necessary to possess so they can lead successful lives. Those include the social and professional skills vital for job applications and college.
The stands placed throughout the school will not be the only place where you can find a paper. As well as utilizing the stands, they will still be in the back of the classrooms in a pile, convenient for a student to pick up while walking out of a class.
In addition to the physical change, there will be more underlying transformations.
“I think one of the changes will be cosmetic. It will look more professional. Hopefully it will lead to more engagement by the students,” Collins said.
The social aspect of having the stands in the area is also a plus. It could potentially be a spot for students to socialize and learn about the opportunities around MN.
The hope is that the racks will cause more students to read “The Hoofbeat,” and discuss one or multiple common subjects that occur in or around the school.
MN takes tremendous pride in the work their students so carefully create. These stands hold the papers that will provide any student with the information that will lead them to become involved and proud to be a part of their school.
